August Programme Flyer
To all members
Daffodil Rally for Cancer – Sunday 25 August: This event, organised by the Vintage Car Club is one of many cancer awareness activities throughout the country in August. The VCC’s Wellington area event will be a car display open to all clubs and car enthusiasts, to be held from 10am to 3pm at Queen Elizabeth Park, Paekakariki (North entrance off SH1). The club will be participating and we hope to see you there – look out for the Peugeot flag. There is a $5 minimum donation per car, with all proceeds to the Cancer Society. We have also been asked to advise members that at this particular venue dogs are not permitted. To ensure we keep our cars grouped together we need to arrive in convoy, so please endeavour to meet at 10.00am in the car parking area off SH1 just South of Steam Incorporasted’s buildings at Paekakariki, so we can drive in together at about 10.15. This is an open air event so watch the weather!
If you are likely to attend, please contact the Secretary in advance so we can prepare a window display card presenting details of your particular model Peugeot.
Pot-luck Supper and Quiz Night – Saturday 7 September: This will be held at the home of Susan and Frans Weehuizen,(our Club president) at 76 Waddington Drive, Naenae from 7.30pm. Quiz questions are to be prepared by Suzanne Jackett, so we just need you and your contribution to supper for a fun evening.
Club Night – Tuesday 24 September: We have been looking through the club’s collection of VHS tapes and will be bringing you a programme of interesting footage from the previous century. Venue and other details in the next flyer.
Club Gymkhana – Sunday 13 October: Last year was a washout year for this traditional club event, so we hope for better conditions when we try again. We anticipate using Trentham Memorial Park, Upper Hutt – details to be advised.
2019 Peugeot Interclub Weekend: – 1-3 November. Plans are in place for this event to be re-scheduled to this weekend, based around Taumarunui. Members of the two Peugeot clubs – Auckland and Wellington have been meeting up every two years for a weekend of activities and camaraderie for many years. The Interclub Trophy is up for grabs and over the 12 weekends since 1994 it has been held by each club six times. Further details will be advised in consultation with our local organiser Nick Watson.
End of Year Dinner – Saturday 30 November. At this stage we are planning for our Xmas gathering to be held at Sea Salt Restaurant, Days Bay
Lake Ferry Excursion – Saturday 13 December: This is the 39th anniversary of the annual classic car drive to Lake Ferry, organised by the Sunbeam Car Club. There is an open invitation to all car enthusiasts to join in, meeting up at the Fell Museum in Featherston at 11am for an 11.30 departure for Lake Ferry. Bring a picnic lunch or join the crowd at the local hotel for lunch. A good crowd is always present, so do join in.
Anniversary Rally for the 404. In 2010 Sven Slager and Tony Haycock organised a highly successful 50th anniversary run for owners of the 404, with about 20 cars participating in a run from
Picton to Akaroa near Christchurch. Sven now advises he is looking towards a 60th anniversary run in 2020 and hopes he can attract an equally impressive entry of 404s with a run circulating the central North Island. A suggested Tour de la Nouvelle-Zélandé is the loop – New Plymouth-Taumarunui- Cambridge- Taupo- Napier-Masterton- Whanganui- New Plymouth, to be held possibly next March. Sven is keen to hear from fellow 404 owners on their thoughts and interest in such a run. It is thought desirable for there to be local organisers familiar with their region to input into the overall programme. Contact Sven at 027 769 5919 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Orders for the club’s 130 years of Peugeot polo shirt are still open should you like one. So far we have sourced 29 for members. Colours include Navy, Teal, Cyan, Black and White, price is $45 +post. Contact the Secretary if you would like one.
